What You Will Learn
Day One - For those new to the field of professional grant writing, or those wanting to improve their success rate, this introductory session is designed to provide a solid foundation in the fundamentals of grant writing. You will learn step-by-step how to develop award winning grant proposals, as well as how to have 90% of the proposal done before you even begin. The agenda includes 1) eleven key components of a grant proposal, 2) how to develop a good problem statement, 3) setting measurable goals and objectives, 4) five important components of a program plan, 5) how to make your case for support, 6) twenty-eight items you can have prepared in advance, 7) elements of an effective fundraising plan, 8) grant research methods and tools, 9) letters of support or collaboration, and 10) non profit fundamentals. Students will have an opportunity to work individually and in groups on their own issues. Each student will leave with a custom designed prospect list of 10-100 foundations.

Day Two - This workshop session features actual grant writing and peer review. Participants will have the opportunity to share previous experience in grant writing and bring proposals in to be reviewed. In this session the trainer will share stories of unique and creative proposals that generated over $3 million for K-12 education. With one project that taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to build computers in less than 30 minutes and one after school program that involved students in revitalizing downtown, these stories will help participants learn how to start thinking "outside the box" and develop one-of-a-kind projects for whatever target population they serve. The agenda includes 1) collaboration and partnerships, 2) budget forms, 3) budget narratives, 4) managing the grant, 5) evaluation methodology, 6) federal and state proposals, 7) criteria and rating factors, 8) large foundation proposals, 9) how to turn a denial into an award, and 10) grant writing as a career. Students will receive a copy of all PowerPoint presentation slides as well as a variety of sample grant proposals.
